About the Paintings

Enmasse, an earthy complexion denotes the common character of Becker’s work, consistent with being provocative.

Usually, it is an aspect of the landscape which helps to prod or reveal some spiritual level in the artist’s eye. But always, it is some aspect of Creation, and The Word through which it was formed, that serves to bring out Joe’s vaulted emotion. The years, this emotional element, and the paintings are cumulative.

An essential and foremost concern of the artist is to remove intermission between mind and hand’s application when actually laying in color. In this way, the canvas or panel may reflect a spontaneous effort; the need to put down an impulse quickly, then move on.

Layered polymers reveal a technique where attention to detail is rarely given priority, rather the restraint from it - clinging to emotional as opposed to technical devices. And yet realism is never forgotten.
